Homemade Worcestershire Sauce

This DIY version of the iconic sauce, steeped in aromatic ingredients like garlic, onions, and anchovies, offers a personalized touch to your kitchen repertoire, bringing an authentic, from-scratch flavor to your favorite recipes.

Ingredients
  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind paste
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 anchovy fillets, diced
Instructions
  1. In a medium saucepan, combine all the ingredients
  2. Bring the mixture to a simmer over medium heat, stirring well to dissolve the sugar.
  3. Once it reaches a simmer, reduce the heat to low and let it gently simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  4. If you've included anchovy fillets, make sure they dissolve into the sauce. You can use a whisk to help with this.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the Worcestershire sauce cool to room temperature.
  6. Strain the sauce to remove any solids and transfer the liquid to a sterilized bottle or jar.
  7. Store the Worcestershire sauce in the refrigerator. It should rest for a couple weeks and will last for many more weeks.
