During the 1950s, it was common for children in Germany to have poem books known as "Poesiealbum" or "Freundschaftsbuch." These books served as a kind of friendship album where classmates and friends could write poems, well-wishes, or short messages for the book's owner. The owner of the album would typically pass it around among their friends, and each friend would contribute a personal message, drawing, or a small verse.
These albums were cherished keepsakes, and the entries within them often reflected the sentimentality and camaraderie of childhood friendships. It was a popular social activity for children to exchange and write in each other's poem books as a way of expressing friendship and leaving lasting memories. The entries could range from simple greetings to more elaborate verses, and the books themselves were often adorned with colorful illustrations.
The tradition of keeping and exchanging poem books has historical roots and variations in different cultures, but it gained widespread popularity in Germany during the 20th century. The practice continued for several decades and has left behind a nostalgic cultural legacy in Germany and other European countries.
My mother, Edith, from the novel “The Electrician and The Seamstress” shared her poem book below.
Give and forgive of all your heart; this is the seed and core of happiness.

May God accompany on all your journeys and for Elise’s word, be it in blessing and silent greetings from me.
~ In lasting memory, Inge

Everything returns in life – joy - happiness Only unhappiness doesn’t return. That’s your youth
~ Elith Bechman

Some noble flower seeds are scattered in a garden bed, beautiful sayings, lovely names are sown in a book.
~ Elke Kobang

May the grace, love and peace of the Lord always guide you as a sparkling star.
