Pit’s Meat Patties
This classic Frikadellen recipe offers a glimpse into the comfort food of the 1950s, showcasing the simplicity and hearty flavors that were commonly enjoyed during that era. Feel free to adjust the seasonings and ingredients according to personal preferences. Serve with cucumber salad.
Ingredients
-
500g ground meat (a mixture of pork and beef is common)
-
1 small onion, finely chopped
-
1-2 slices of day-old bread, soaked in water or milk
-
1 large egg
-
2 tablespoons flour
-
1 teaspoon mustard
-
Salt and pepper to taste
-
A pinch of nutmeg (optional)
-
Butter or oil for frying
Instructions
-
Soak the slices of day-old bread in water or milk until softened.
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground meat, finely chopped onion, soaked bread, egg, flour, mustard, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
-
Use your hands to thoroughly mix the ingredients until well combined.
-
Wet your hands to prevent sticking, then shape the mixture into round, flat patties. The size can vary based on your preference.
-
In a frying pan, heat a generous amount of butter or oil over medium heat. The butter adds flavor, but oil works well too.
-
Carefully place the patties in the hot pan. Cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and cooked through.
-
Ensure that the internal temperature reaches a safe level for the ground meat.
-
Once cooked, transfer the Frikadellen to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.
-
Serve the Frikadellen hot with traditional sides like mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables.
